Montreal resident charged with sexually assaulting five minors and an adult

A 34-year-old man from the Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough faces a total of 16 charges alleging he sexually assaulted six people, including five minors, between April and earlier this week.

Lukasz Bakuniak appeared before Quebec Court Judge Éric De Champlain through a videoconference at the Montreal courthouse on Thursday. The Crown objected to his release and he is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday.

He was arrested at the de l’Église métro station in Verdun on Wednesday, the Montreal police said in a statement. They also said one of the victims was sexually assaulted on a city bus in April. Earlier this month, the Montreal police released information about the sexual assault along with photos and video images of the man they described as their suspect.

On April 11 around 4:45 p.m., “the suspect allegedly perpetrated acts of a sexual nature against a minor on board the 165 Côte-des-Neiges bus (in Town of Mount Royal). The individual allegedly masturbated in front of the victim before following her off the bus, where he then committed sexual touching,” the police said in the statement earlier this month.

On Thursday, Bakuniak was charged in connection with what happened on April 11 as well as sexual assaults that allegedly took place over the course of a week, between Sept. 17 and 24. Two of the alleged sexual assaults took place on Sept. 24.

One of the alleged victims was an adult and the other five were between the ages of 13 and 15. In some cases, Bakuniak is also charged with sexual touching and criminal harassment.

When asked if the other alleged sexual assaults took place on city buses or in the métro, a Montreal police spokesperson said they will have more to say about the charges “in the coming days.”
