Golf fans, residents have separate routes to Jacques-Bizard Bridge this week

Organizers of the biggest golf tournament to ever be played in Canada are hoping the only people teed off this week are on the green and not on the single bridge linking Montreal to Île-Bizard, where the Presidents Cup is taking place at the Royal Montreal Golf Club.

PGA Presidents Cup executive director Ryan Hart issued transportation details in a statement on Tuesday, which was a practice day for professional players ahead of the opening ceremony on Thursday.

“Due to construction on the Île-Bizard bridge, it is imperative that those attending the tournament review the instructions … to expedite their arrival on site,” the statement said.

Ticket holders for the tournament, which ends Sunday, will be able to access the Jacques-Bizard Bridge via St-Jean Blvd. between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. through Sunday. Residents of Île-Bizard are to use St-Charles Blvd. to access the bridge.

The statement warns golf tournament ticket holders against attempting to access the bridge via St-Charles, “which is reserved for residents. … You will be redirected.”

Ticket holders are told to take Exit 52 from Highway 40 onto St-Jean, then turn left on Pierrefonds Blvd., into a sorting area at the intersection of Pierrefonds and St-Pierre St. From there, they’ll be directed to turn right onto Jacques-Bizard and to their preassigned parking lot number.

Shuttles will transport ticket holders to the main entrance at the golf club.

The City of Montreal began construction of a new bridge to Île-Bizard with an additional lane for traffic in 2022 to replace the existing bridge. Construction is scheduled to end in the spring.
