Of the 23 players invited to the camp, 14 were drafted by the Canadiens. Only two of the 10 players the Canadiens selected at this year’s NHL draft will be at the camp — defenceman Owen Protz, selected in the fourth round (102nd overall), and forward Tyler Thorpe, selected in the fifth round (130th overall).
The Canadiens’ first four picks at this year’s draft — including their two first-round choices — won’t be at the camp. Winger Ivan Demidov, selected fifth overall, is playing for St. Petersburg SKA in the KHL, while centre Michael Hage (21st overall) is at the University of Michigan. Centre Aatos Koivu — the son of former Canadiens captain Saku Koivu, selected in the third round (70th overall) — is playing for TPS Turku in the Finnish Elite League. Centre Logan Sawyer, also selected in the third round (78th overall), is at Providence College.
Defenceman David Reinbacher, selected by the Canadiens in the first round (fifth overall) of last year’s NHL Draft, will be at the camp.
Laval Rocket head coach Pascal Vincent and his coaching staff will run the rookie camp.
