The prices are about eight per cent above last year’s prices. The increase in the consumer price index for Quebec was estimated at 4.6 per cent for 2023, and 2.7 per cent in 2024.
Renting Bixis for longer than 45 minutes on monthly or seasonal passes will also cost more — 17 cents per minute, up from 11. Renting electric Bixis with passes will cost 17 cents a minute for the entire trip.
Taxes are not included in these rates.
“These new rates will allow us to guarantee the service that you know and love so well, maintain the equipment, continue to increase the number of regular and electric bikes in the fleet and grow the network,” Bixi told users in an email.
“BIXI is faced, like any rapidly growing organization, with significant costs associated with its development while maintaining the quality of its facilities, its bicycles and its service,” it said in a statement announcing the new prices. “This is an even more sensitive issue with the deployment of the electricity network, which allows more users to opt for active and sustainable transport over longer distances, even to go to work and study.”
In a statement, the bicycle rental service said use of its network grew 31 per cent in 2023, with more than 11.7 million trips.
This season, Bixi will have more than 11,000 bicycles, including 2,620 electric Bixis, at 934 stations in the Montreal agglomeration, Longueuil, Laval, Boucherville and Terrebonne.
